DOT Collectors Training FAQ & Student Support
Honest answers to the questions students ask most. No fluff — just what you need to know before you enroll.
What does your training class teach?
Care Route training teaches students how to start, structure, and operate a mobile diagnostic and compliance-based service business. Training may include DOT and Non-DOT drug testing, DNA collections, fingerprinting, and other related mobile wellness support services. Our classes are hands-on, beginner-friendly, and built for people who are serious about learning the process the right way.
Do I need a medical background?
No. You do not need a medical background. Our programs are designed for beginners. We teach the process from the ground up, including supplies, forms, setup, service flow, professionalism, and business readiness.
Will I be certified after training?
Students who successfully complete DOT specimen collector training and the required mock collection scenarios will receive documentation of qualification for DOT urine specimen collection. DOT collector qualification is valid for 5 years. For other service areas, certification may not be required. Care Route is honest about what requires certification and what does not.
Is this training accredited by the Department of Transportation?
No. The Department of Transportation does not accredit or approve training providers. Care Route's DOT specimen collector training is structured in alignment with 49 CFR Part 40, which requires collectors to be properly trained and demonstrate proficiency before performing regulated collections.
Do you help with starting the business?
Yes. We provide structure, resources, strategy, and guidance. We give students the blueprint, but each student is responsible for applying what they learn. Execution is the student's responsibility.
How much do I need for training and to start up a business?
Most students should plan for approximately $500 to $1,500 depending on your budget. Start small if needed and build up your clientele and grow your brand, then expand. This business does not require a huge upfront investment, but students do need enough cash flow to operate professionally and avoid cutting corners.
Do you offer job placement?
No. This is entrepreneurship-based training. Care Route teaches students how to build their own business. We do not promise employment or job placement.
Do you offer self-paced training?
Yes. We offer self-paced options for students who prefer to learn on their own time. We also offer in-person training for students who need live, hands-on instruction, direct support, and real-time guidance.
I'm brand new. Where should I start?
We recommend starting with an in-person or virtual private session. This gives students a stronger foundation and helps them understand the industry, the services, and the best path for their goals.
Can anyone teach this training?
No. Not everyone is qualified to teach DOT specimen collector training. Under 49 CFR Part 40, trainers must themselves be qualified collectors with demonstrated proficiency. Care Route instructors are trained, experienced, and qualified to teach DOT collection procedures. When choosing a training provider, always ask about their qualifications — your certification is only as credible as the person who trained you.
In-Person Training FAQ
Everything you need to know before attending a live class.
What are in-person classes like?
Care Route in-person classes are hands-on, practical, and direct. Students learn real steps they can use right away. Every class has its own flow, but our standard remains the same: quality training, clear instruction, professional guidance, and a supportive learning environment.
Can I record the session?
No. Recording is not permitted during in-person training sessions. This protects attendee privacy and the integrity of our course content. Key information will be included in the course materials for future reference.
Do you provide certificates?
Yes. Care Route provides DOT drug testing training documentation when all DOT training and mock collection requirements are successfully completed. We also provide a certificate of participation for attending the class. We do not provide individual service certificates for areas where certification is not required.
Are DOT mocks completed during class?
If the class has six or fewer attendees, DOT mock collections may be completed the same day. If the class has more than six attendees, mocks may be scheduled within one week after class or completed virtually when appropriate.
When will I receive the class location?
Location details are emailed approximately two weeks before the event. Students should check their spam or junk folder. If the details have not been received, students should contact Care Route directly for assistance.
What support is provided after class?
Students receive complimentary group coaching every Wednesday night for the first 60 days after class. Private mentorship may be available as an add-on after completing the complimentary group coaching period.
